During July 30 to August 5, 2018, 13 students from CBEIS, Zhejiang University formed a summer social practice team, and conducted a one-week survey on the development of biomedical engineering industry in Singapore.
First stop: Bionic robot lab of National University of Singapore (NUS)
Soft robot is an emerging technology in the field of rehabilitation. We learned its advantages over ordinary material robots, and tried the products that the laboratory has already made.
Second stop: Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR)
Here, we entered the clean room, and were deeply impressed by the careful and rigorous processing of bio-nano materials.
Third stop: Biomaterials, biofluidics and engineering biology laboratory of NUS
We learned about microbial genetic modification, the model of the cardiovascular system, and the application of biomedical engineering in treating some certain diseases.
Last stop: Changi General Hospital (CGH)
We first learned about the medical system of Singapore. Then we listened to the introduction of the cochlear implant developed by the hospital and studied its core technologies and advantages.
This experience has not only brought our team members the growth of knowledge, the broadening of horizon and the widening of mind, but also improved their sense of mission and responsibility. The development of medical instruments is closely related to human health, and is also the guarantee of people's sense of well-being. We need to contribute our own strength to make this field realize its enormous potential in our country. The bright future and the long-term significance of BME are worth our struggle and pride.
