On August 11, 2019, 23 undergraduate students from CBEIS, Zhejiang University, went for a seven-day summer exchange program at the City University of Hong Kong. The program aims to exchange ideas between two schools about BME research and education, and to give undergraduate students to broaden their international visions.
On the first day, Professor Jeff.W.M.Bulte from Johns Hopkins University gave a lecture about the differences between traditional MRI and the newly developed technology MPI. Research Professor Wu Dan from CBEIS, ZJU then gave a detailed introduction to the implementation and latest developments of MRI.
Afterwards, the students visited the BME laboratory of CityU. They were presented with knowledge and technologies about 3D printing, robotics, chemical analysis and biological cultivation, etc.
On the mornings of the 13th and the 14th, Mr. King Lai from CityU taught the students about deep learning related to artificial intelligence (AI). Under the guidance of the teacher, the students were able to independently build a deep learning model. This simple training not only enabled students to master a new skill, but also gave them inspiration in other fields of scientific research.
On the afternoons of the 13th and 14th, and on the 15th, Professor Kannie of CityU introduced the students to the future development of BME and assigned a final project. Students were divided into five groups, each selected one project to prepare for the presentation on the morning of the 16th. Professors gave instructions to the students and made comments on the day of presentation. Each group's projects contained their own unique ideas and useful intentions.
This trip to Hong Kong successfully help the students to gain new knowledge, to have access to cutting-edge technologies and to broaden their own horizons.
