On June 3, 2024, the 9th Lv Weixue Academic Forum was successfully held in ZhouYiqing Suite, Yuquan Campus. Professor Ding Lei, a distinguished alumnus and the director of the Institute of Biomedical Science and Engineering Technology of the University of Oklahoma, USA, was invited to give a lecture on the theme of ‘Electrophysiological Functional Neuroimaging: Functional Neuroimaging Based on Electro-magnetic and Physiological Signals’. Prof Wang Ping, the Qiushi Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University, hosted the meeting.

Professor Ding introduced the basic principles and application fields of electrophysiological functional neuroimaging, which could help study the functional state of the brain non-invasively by simply recording and analyzing the electrical/magnetic signals, thus providing a powerful tool for neuroscience research. He then elaborated on its applications in neurodegenerative diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders. Ding also shared his innovative ideas and research progress in neuroimaging, firmly stating that the trends would emphasize broad applicability and practicality to effectively address the needs of various diseases and patients. Meanwhile, he also encouraged the students and faculty to explore and innovate, and to contribute to the development of the neuroscience field.

The teachers and students were fully immersed in heartfelt and meaningful interactions and exchanges. Professor Ding patiently answered those questions raised and shared his perspective and insights. He said that as a practitioner of biomedical engineering, one should always maintain the curiosity and spirit of exploration in science, and constantly pursue innovation and breakthroughs. Prof Wang expressed his heartfelt thanks to Ding for bringing an academic feast to the teachers and students of CEBIS. Ding's achievements in neuroimaging and modulation technology were showcased at this meeting, providing a valuable platform for fellows to learn and exchange ideas.

Later, Prof Ding visited some of the representative laboratories of CEBIS with the accompany of Prof Wang. He thoroughly reviewed the latest research results and progress of our college, engaging in detailed exchanges and discussions with the teachers aligned. Prof Ding appreciated the achievements of the college, while also gave valuable suggestions on the future development.
