On November 15, 2024, the fifth installment of the CBEIS Roundtable — a sharing session featuring alumni Haolong Dong and Yilin Zhang— was successfully held at the Zhou Yiqing Suite, Yuquan Campus, Zhejiang University. Over a hundred students participated in this event, along with Yang Yang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the college and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Committee, and members of the Alumni Office.
Event Overview and Guest Introductions
Yang Yang introduced the activity and the guests, highlighting that this edition of the salon focused on the nuclear power industry. She welcomed Haolong Dong, Deputy Director of Human Resources at Qinshan Nuclear Power and a 2001 graduate of CBEIS, and Yilin Zhang, Deputy Director of the Reactor Measurement and Protection Research Institute at China Nuclear Power Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd., also a 2001 alumnus. Yang Yang noted that the purpose of this event was to provide students with insights into the latest trends, technical challenges, and talent policies within the nuclear industry, encouraging them to explore career possibilities through interaction with outstanding alumni.
Alumni Insights
Dong traced the history of China's nuclear industry and highlighted the achievements of Zhejiang University graduates in peaceful nuclear energy utilization, nuclear technology innovation, and nuclear safety research. He emphasized the importance of corporate platforms for personal career development and introduced the unique talent development and training model of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), encouraging students to consider various factors when choosing industries and positions.
Zhang shared his academic journey at Zhejiang University and his growth within CGN Research Institute, discussing key projects and turning points in his career. He detailed the localization process of the nuclear facility-specific instrumentation and control system (3R) from its background, R&D journey, technical difficulties, to application outcomes. Zhang urged students to plan their careers based on personal strengths and prepare knowledge and skills accordingly, setting lofty ideals to serve the country through innovation and hard work.
Q&A Session
During the Q&A session, students actively asked questions about the current state and future of the nuclear industry, including working conditions at nuclear power plants, the role of nuclear power in the energy system, and industry trends. Both alumni patiently answered these inquiries, providing detailed guidance based on their experiences.
This event not only deepened students' understanding of China's nuclear industry but also inspired them to take on the mission and responsibility of contributing to national strategic sectors.
