On December 20, 2024, our College of Biomedical Engineering & Instrument Science (CBEIS) at Zhejiang University successfully hosted the 17th “Lv Wei’xue Academic Forum“ in conjunction with the symposium on Biomechanics of Injury and Protection at Zhou Yiqing Suite, Yuquan Campus.

The forum featured a keynote address by Professor Li’zhen Wang, a distinguished professor from the School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, BUAA. Professor Wang is also the Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Biomechanics and Mechanobiology of the Ministry of Education, Director of the MedTech Innovation Center at Hangzhou International Innovation Institute of Beihang University, a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, leader of an innovative youth team supported by the Ministry of Education, and holds key positions in various international and national associations including WACBE and APMB. The lecture was chaired by Liang’fei Tian, a researcher under Zhejiang University’s Hundred Talents Program.

In her presentation, Professor Wang highlighted challenges such as unclear tolerance limits of tissue/organ damage, unknown protective mechanisms, and ineffective repair technologies in complex high-overload environments like aerospace, traffic safety, and competitive sports. She then delved into the relationship between biological structure-materials and mechanical properties, aiming to provide a theoretical foundation for injury protection and repair.

Also, Professor Wang presented multiple studies from her team focusing on the biomechanics of biological tissues, explaining how adjusting materials and structures can enhance protective equipment effectiveness and improve injury assessment and protection/repair techniques. Her clear explanations sparked significant interest and enthusiastic discussions among attendees.
